How to remove pet hairs and smells from your car
Pet owners have been told the easiest ways to remove hairs and smells from inside their cars. Experts at LeaseCar.uk have named five tips for pet owners to keep their vehicles clean and fresh.
Using a lint roller over the vehicle surfaces is an affordable way to easily lift off any pet hairs that have become stuck. Rubber gloves wiped over the interior will also remove hairs from hard to reach areas, such as in between the car seats. A tip to remove pet odours is to spray a DIY solution of white vinegar and water in order to neutralise any smells.
Tim Alcock, from LeaseCar.uk said: "As much as we love our pets, it can be a nuisance to try and get rid of all the pet hairs that have stuck to the car seats and fallen into hard to reach gaps. Simply using a lint roller or wiping rubber gloves over the interior will lift up pet hairs and grime.
"Smells from our pets can also be hard to get rid of - but spraying a solution of white vinegar and water, or letting baking soda sit on the surface, can help to neutralise odours. Another tip is to collect old blankets and towels to place over the seats to stop your pet from damaging the interior of your car. These can be vacuumed and shaken out regularly. Putting them on a hot wash can help to remove smells."
Here's how to remove pet hairs and smells from your car:
- Lint roller
Roll a lint roller across the area where your pet sits to easily lift up any hairs that have become stuck to the vehicle interior. This method will pick up hairs quickly. Just remember to change the sticky sheets often in order to collect as much pet hair as possible.
- Rubber gloves
Rub the car seats with rubber gloves to lift off any pet hairs inside the car. Using rubber gloves is a good way to get in between the seats and remove any hairs that have fallen into hard to reach areas.
- Baking soda
Generously sprinkle baking soda over the interior of your car to loosen any pet hairs that have become stuck into the fabric. After 30 minutes, hoover over the area to achieve a clean finish. Leave the baking soda to sit overnight to help eliminate any pet odours too.
- White vinegar and water
Mix one part white vinegar and one part water together to create a solution, spray this over the car and let it sit for around 15 minutes. The DIY cleaning solution will help to neutralise any smells from pets. Air the car out by keeping windows and doors open to stop the vehicle smelling of vinegar.
- Blankets and towels
Gather some old blankets and towels to cover up the car seats to stop pet hairs and smells sticking to the interior. These can be shaken out or vacuumed regularly to remove pet hairs and then washed at a high temperature to deodorise.
