Sustainable brand, Wave, has spoken exclusively to Mahira Kalim, Founder and CEO of eco-friendly cleaning brand, Spruce, to share the best pet-friendly ingredients pet owners should be using instead of chemical products.

Speaking exclusively to sustainable brand, Wave, Mahira explains:

"It's very easy for animals to come into contact with harmful chemicals from cleaning products through their paws or by licking surfaces. Ingesting or inhaling these chemicals can cause a range of health problems for pets, including respiratory issues, skin irritation, poisoning, and even organ damage.

The best eco-friendly cleaning ingredients that are safe for pets are those that are non-toxic and chemical free.

You can utilize safe ingredients with natural antimicrobial properties that are already lying around your home. Vinegar, lemon, and bicarbonate of soda are just a few must-haves, and are perfect alternatives to products full of toxic chemicals.

For example, bicarbonate of soda is a great natural carpet cleaner, for general use and pet stains. Simply sprinkle baking soda lightly over the carpet or area you want to clean, rub in and let the baking soda sit on the carpet for 30 minutes before vacuuming the carpet as you normally would.

"Natural and organic essential oils are also not only a safer alternative to synthetic fragrances, but they also have natural antimicrobial and antiviral properties, which can be good for disinfecting surfaces naturally, without being harmful to your furry friends."
