A Travel Expert at SIXT, comments:

"As many Americans consider their pets valuable household members, they dream of creating fond memories with their beloved pets by taking them everywhere. However, traveling with your pet isn't always easy. These 5 tips and tricks can help make car travel with your dog a breeze.

  1. Get your dog used to being in a car by letting them sit in it with you and taking short rides before your trip.

  2. To avoid car sickness, make sure your dog travels on an empty stomach by feeding them a light meal three to four hours before setting off.

  3. Don't let your dog ride with its head sticking out of the window. While it may look cute, it can lead to potential injuries.

  4. Ensure your vehicle is well-stocked with bottled water, as drinking water from a new area could cause stomach issues, and plan to stop frequently for bathroom and exercise breaks.

  5. Pack a favorite toy or pillow to give your pet a sense of familiarity. This can help keep them calm in the confined space of your vehicle, especially during a long road trip.

SIXT can help you book the perfect car to ensure you and your pup stay well-traveled."
