A new survey has revealed that pup owners would rather treat their dogs than themselves when it comes to birthdays.

The team at tails.com have conducted a new study, which surveyed over 1000 dog owners in the UK, to reveal how they celebrated their pup's birthday.

As part of the study, the team found out that when it came to treating their pooch on their birthday, half (50%) of the respondents said they would rather treat their dog than themselves when it came to gifts on their birthday. Not only that, but almost two in five (39%) said that treating their pooch is treating them as well.

However, when it came to some pooch owners, a small percentage (7%) said they prefer treating themselves over their canine companion.

If you're looking for ideas on how to treat your dog on their birthday, check out the list below;

  1. Go on a Long Dog Walk in a National Park - Summer may officially be over, but that doesn't mean you can't make your dog's birthday extra special by going on a long dog walk to your favourite walking spots, or why not explore a new location?

To make things extra special, take a trip to one of the UK's dog-friendly National Parks, where there are plenty of new sights and smells to explore.

  1. Have a doggy movie night - Rather stay cosy and warm inside when it comes to celebrating your fluffy friend's special day? A dog movie night can be great fun!

    Grab your dog's favourite toy, blankets and perhaps some special treats so they can snuggle down with you to watch a film. To make it that bit more fun, put on a movie that your furry friend is guaranteed to love, like Secret Life of Pets or 101 Dalmatians.

  2. Make Pup-Cakes - One way you can show your canine companion some extra love is by baking them some delicious dog-friendly pupcakes for their birthday.

Or for something a bit different to treat your excitable dogs, you could whip up a Birthday Cake in a Mug. Just add together banana, egg and peanut butter in a mug and then pop it into the microwave for 30 seconds.

  1. Play some Dog-Friendly Games - Make play time extra special for their birthday this year, by playing some dog-friendly games.

    Make sure you have plenty of treats and toys when engaging in some fun activities with your pooch including hide and seek and fetch. The best part about party games is it they can actually help your dog to practice commands like 'Sit' and 'Stay'.

  2. Let them Choose a Gift - Nothing says happy birthday to our canine friends more than giving them a gift.

You can even make it that little bit more special by taking them to your local pet store and letting them pick out a gift themselves that they absolutely love!
